How to Order an Official Transcript

Official transcripts may be ordered online. This is the preferred method of ordering. If you will be ordering a transcript and are not selecting either the “Hold for Grades” or “Hold for Degree” options, please review your course information and grades carefully for accuracy and verify your degree has posted before placing a transcript order.

Order a Transcript

Log in with your EID to order an official transcript online or to check order status.

If you are not able to login to the Online Transcript Order System, please note:
• Your UT EID and password is required for login
• If you did not have a UT EID during the time you attended, one has been assigned to you. Please use the University’s UT EID Self-Service Tools to find your UT EID. If the UT EID Self-Service Tools are not able to locate your UT EID, do not create a new one. Contact the UT Service Desk for help, including password assistance.

When ordering online may not be an option:

  • If you intend to pick up the transcript in person do not order online, instead use one of the other ordering methods.
  • If you only completed distance, extension, or correspondence courses, official transcripts may only be ordered online within three years of your course completion date. See the Distance, Extension, Correspondence Courses page for more information on how to order.
  • If you last enrolled before Fall 1979, you may not be able to order online. Please complete Transcript Order Form 891 to order your transcript.

How to Pay

  • If you are eligible to order online, you can pay using your University account through What I Owe. What I Owe accepts eCheck, Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), Visa, American Express, Discover, and MasterCard. If you experience difficulty using What I Owe, try a different web browser. Contact Student Accounts Receivable if you need further assistance using What I Owe.
  • If you need your most recent or final transcript sent immediately, before paying make sure your grades are on your transcript by checking your grade report and verify degree.
  • Review your order carefully before paying online. Once an order is paid, the order cannot be revised or canceled; refund requests may not be accepted.
  • Confirmed online orders left unpaid will be cancelled.
  • To prevent online ordering errors, do not use the browser’s “back” button at any time during order placement.
  • Transcripts sent to incomplete addresses provided online may cause delivery delays or returns by the U.S. Postal Service. Review recipient addresses carefully before submitting your transcript request.
  • PDF transcript orders are not billed through What I Owe. Instead you will be led to a separate payment system during the ordering process that accepts VISA, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, or eChecks. To resume a PDF transcript order after paying, select “send directly to me or to a third party” on STEP 1 of the ordering system. Select “yes” on STEP 2. Then scroll down to the bottom of the page and select the order you previously started.”

Financial Holds

You will need to resolve any financial holds before your official transcripts can be issued. You can check your hold status through What I Owe. For more information on resolving financial holds, see Paying Your Tuition or call Texas One Stop at 512-232-6988.

Delivery Options

For official transcripts ordered online, there are three delivery options: mailed, electronic transcript to other educational institutions (via SPEEDE server), and PDF.

Same-day pickup at the Texas One Stop is available for in-person orders (ONLY), if last enrolled after Fall 1979.

Expedited delivery and/or tracking is also available at your expense. Please review the Expedited Delivery & Same Day Pickup page for more information

You may request your official transcript to be issued to you either in a:

  • Sealed envelope; the transcript will be issued in an envelope with the registrar’s signature stamped across the back flap
  • Open (unsealed) envelope

Transcripts mailed directly to third parties are considered sealed.

The Office of the Registrar does not fax or scan transcripts into a digital format under any circumstances.

Mailed

Transcripts to be mailed may be ordered and paid online.

Important:

  • Transcripts to be mailed leave our office within two business days. Processing times for orders may be longer during peak periods, particularly at the beginning and end of semesters.
  • Transcripts are sent by U.S. First Class Standard mail or Foreign Air mail and cannot be tracked.
  • For domestic mail, allow at least two weeks for delivery.
  • For international mail, allow at least four weeks for delivery.
  • If you need to expedite or track a transcript in the mail, see the Expedited Delivery

Electronic Transcript to Other Institutions

An electronic transcript can be sent to certain community colleges, universities, and licensing boards using a secure electronic server (also known as SPEEDE) managed by the National Student Clearinghouse. You may order online, login to the Online Transcript Ordering System.

Important:

  • If the transcript is for the purpose of gaining admission to a graduate program (as opposed to an undergraduate program or a health science center) OR if the transcript is for human resources for the purpose of gaining employment, then this is probably not the ordering option you want to use.
  • To order, in the Online Transcript Ordering System:
    • In Step 1, select “Send to another educational institution”
    • In Step 3, select “Send to a third party” and choose from the dropdown menu. If the recipient you are looking for is not listed, you will not be able to send an electronic transcript via SPEEDE to that recipient at this time.
  • These electronic transcripts are sent the next business day after payment is received.
  • This ordering option is not available for students who only completed distance, extension, or correspondence courses.

PDF

PDF transcripts can only be ordered online. To place an online PDF order, login to the Online Transcript Ordering System

  1. On Step 1, select “Send directly to me or to a third party”
  2. On Step 2, select “Yes” to “Send the transcript as a PDF”
  3. Continue and complete the remaining prompts

Important:

  • The recipient will receive a link to a downloadable and printable official transcript that includes the university seal and signature of the university registrar.
  • PDF transcripts are emailed via DocuSign the same day after payment is received.
  • The DocuSign email should not be forwarded.
  • The PDF transcript links expire 30 calendar days from the sent date.
  • The PDF transcript option is not available for some third party destinations. In this case, the system may prevent you from placing an order. Contact the Transcript Services Team to discuss your options.
  • Upon ordering and paying for your PDF transcript, your recipient will receive two emails: (1) an email from DocuSign containing a link to the PDF transcript, and (2) a separate email containing an access code that must be entered to access the PDF transcript.

Make sure our PDF transcript is acceptable to the recipient before placing an order. If you also want a transcript to be mailed, you will need to place a separate order, provide a complete mailing address, and pay an additional $20.

  • During the ordering process, you will create a case-sensitive access code that the recipient must use to access the PDF transcript. The access code will be sent to the recipient by us on your behalf in a separate email.
  • PDF transcript orders are not billed to What I Owe. Instead, you will be led through a separate payment system during the ordering process that accepts, VISA, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, or eChecks.
  • To resume a PDF transcript order in the Online Transcript Ordering System:
    • In Step 1, select “Send directly to me or to a third party”
    • In Step 2, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select the order you previously started.

There is not an option for you to cancel your own PDF transcript order. Orders left unpaid will be systematically canceled.

Cancelling an Online Order

Only unpaid online transcript orders selected to be mailed or sent to another educational institution (via SPEEDE) can be canceled. To cancel, login to the Online Transcript Order System. On the left side menu, select “Cancel Unpaid Orders”.

Other Ways to Order

Online ordering is the preferred method of ordering an official transcript. However, if you are unable to order online, the following ordering methods may be available to you:

In Person

Transcripts may be ordered in person at the Texas One Stop on the ground floor of the Main Building (the Tower) on 110 Inner Campus Drive. See Visit Texas One Stop for office hours and visiting procedures.

Important:

  • You must present a current UT ID card, valid state-issued photo ID, or driver’s license, current passport, or military ID to pick up your transcript.
  • Transcripts are $20 per copy and payment is required upfront. Texas One Stop only accepts Visa, MasterCard, and Discover cards as payment. You cannot pay online from What I Owe if you are ordering in person.
  • Do not order online if you intend to pick the transcript up in person.
  • For students last enrolled before Fall 1979, your order may need to be placed in advance. Please complete Transcript Order Form 891, request pickup, and we will notify you your order is ready.
  • Incorrect information given to us when placing your order may result in another purchase. A refund will not be issued. Changing your mind about a transcript order after leaving our office will not be refunded or may result in another purchase. When in doubt, follow up with our office before placing a new order.

By Proxy

For students last enrolled after Fall 1979, you may authorize a third party (proxy) to order or pick up (at the Texas One Stop) your official transcript by completing our proxy authorization form.

Important:

  • The proxy can email the form to onestop@utexas.edu. A clear copy of the student’s valid photo ID that bears a signature must accompany the proxy form.
  • Ordering by proxy cannot be done online.
  • All written requests must have the student’s handwritten signature.
  • The proxy must present their own current student photo ID, state-issued photo ID or driver’s license, passport, or military ID for document release. The first and last name of the proxy written on the proxy form must match the proxy’s identification.
  • If the payment section on the proxy form is left blank, we will expect the proxy to pay for the transcript in our office.

By Mail, Fax, or Email

If unable to order online, official transcripts may be ordered by submitting a signed Transcript Order Form 891 and either emailing to transcripts@austin.utexas.edu; faxing to 512-475-7520, or mailing to The University of Texas at Austin, Office of the Registrar, Transcript Services, P.O. Box 302666, Austin, TX 78703.

Important:

  • If requesting sealed student-issued transcripts on the Transcript Order Form 891, clearly mark the total number of official transcripts needed and of the total number, how many should be sealed separately in official envelopes.
  • Written transcript requests are typically processed within 5 business days.
  • Make sure to review recipient addresses carefully before submitting your transcript order. Incomplete addresses provided on the form may cause delivery delays or returns by the U.S. Postal Service. In some cases, address errors may require a new order with payment if the transcript is not received.
  • Transcripts are sent by the U.S. Postal Service First Class Standard mail or Foreign Air mail and cannot be tracked.
  • For domestic mail, allow at least two weeks for delivery.
  • For international mail, allow at least four weeks for delivery.
  • If you need to expedite or track a transcript, see the Expedited Delivery
