Consortium Agreement

A consortium agreement is a written contract that allows students to receive federal financial aid from UT Austin for courses taken at another institution, a “visiting school”, that are transferable to their degree program.  A student’s financial aid is based on the total enrollment hours between both schools.

Students enrolling in coursework outside of UT Austin are expected to pay the visiting institution’s tuition and associated enrollment fees according to payment deadlines for each institution. After the consortium form is processed by both UT Austin and the visiting school, the student will be reimbursed via their financial aid funding. Please note that UT Austin will disburse aid according to its disbursement schedule and not the visiting institution’s. Financial aid will automatically be applied to UT Austin debts. Any remaining funds will be sent to the student via direct deposit or a mailed check to the local address on file.

Students can enter a consortium agreement in a particular semester via the Consortium Agreement Form and the following steps:

  1. Determine which courses to take at a visiting institution. Talk to your academic advisor to confirm those courses count towards your UT Austin degree or use the Automated Transfer Equivalency System to see how those credits will transfer, either by the visiting institution’s course number or UT Austin’s. Consortium agreement coursework must be part of a student’s UT Austin degree plan to be eligible.

  2. Submit the Consortium Agreement Form via Docusign, including both UT Austin and the visiting institution’s course information.

  3. Once course equivalencies are verified and approved, UT Austin will notify the student and forward the form to the visiting school.

  4. Register for approved visiting institution coursework and pay the appropriate tuition and enrollment fees.

  5. The visiting institution’s enrollment cost will be reimbursed once UT Austin disburses financial aid.

  6. Send an official transcript to UT Austin upon completion of the consortium term, and no later than September 1, 2024 for approved summer 2024 consortium agreements. Failure to do so may affect future financial aid.

Things to Note:

  • Grades of D+ or below in visiting institution courses cannot be claimed for UT Austin credit, however they will be used in determining Satisfactory Academic Progress for financial aid eligibility.
  • If the visiting school is outside the state of Texas, students need to submit the Evaluation of Course form for courses to be evaluated for UT Austin credit.
