How Tuition is Used
Tuition revenue, along with state funding, and distributions from the Available University Fund make up the vast majority of the academic core funding in the University’s Operating Budget.
Tuition plays an integral part in the university’s core mission by making it possible to hire faculty to maintain class sizes, retain faculty and staff talent through merit pay, and support new and existing academic programs.
Tuition also funds:
- College, school, and student services initiatives
- Critical academic capital projects and debt service
- IT infrastructure
- General libraries
- Financial aid programs targeted at maintaining economic accessibility of the university
- Utilities for UT Austin’s campuses
